Document categories explained: What to upload
Breakdown of common document types by category
SafeKeep uses document categories to help you stay organised and make it easier to find what you need. These categories have been carefully created by the SafeKeep team after reviewing what people across the country most commonly store in their filing cabinets.
Each document you upload is placed into one of these categories. This helps you filter, search, and view your Safe in a clear and structured way.
What are document categories?
A category is the type of document you are uploading. For example:
- A car insurance policy belongs to the Insurance category
- A will belongs to the Legal category
- A medical summary belongs to the Health category
Categories are used across both the web platform and the mobile app. You will see them when uploading documents, and you can use them later to filter your view in All Documents or My Safe.
Categories are different from folders
It is important to note that categories are not the same as folders.
- Categories are created by SafeKeep and cannot be changed
- Folders are managed by you and can be renamed, moved, or customised
For example, you might have a Travel folder that includes documents from multiple categories, such as Health, Financial, and Identity. The folder is personal to you, while the categories help SafeKeep sort and suggest documents behind the scenes.
Where to see all categories
You can view the full list of document categories and the documents within them by visiting the My Recommendations area.
This is available on both the web platform and the mobile app. It shows you:
- The category name
- A list of common documents that belong to that category
- A short explanation of what each document is and why it might be helpful to store
Even if some documents do not apply to you, reviewing these categories can help you discover gaps or areas where uploading might be useful.
SafeKeep’s document categories are designed to make your digital filing cabinet feel natural, organised, and ready for whatever life brings.
