How to set up and manage 2FA

Step-by-step to enable, disable, or change two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an extra layer of security that protects your SafeKeep account by requiring a second form of verification when logging in. You can choose one additional method beyond your password, either email, mobile SMS, or an authenticator app.

What’s set up automatically

When you first create your SafeKeep account, you’ll verify your email address. This becomes your default 2FA method during onboarding. You will also receive a recovery code that you must store safely. This is the only way to regain access to your account if you lose access to your 2FA method.

Choosing your 2FA method

You can manage your preferred two-factor method from your account settings on the web platform. SafeKeep supports only one active method at a time:

  • Email verification – A code is sent to your verified email when logging in
  • Mobile verification – A code is sent via SMS to your verified mobile number
  • Authenticator app – A time-based code generated in an app like Google Authenticator

To change your method:

  1. Go to your account settings on the web platform
  2. Select Security
  3. Choose your preferred 2FA method
  4. Follow the prompts to verify and activate it

Switching to a new method will automatically replace your current one.

Setting up an authenticator app

To use an authenticator app:

  1. Log in to SafeKeep on the web app
  2. Go to your account settings
  3. Open the Security section
  4. Select Enable authenticator app
  5. Scan the QR code using an app like Google Authenticator or Authy
  6. Enter the 6-digit code to confirm

If you ever want to stop using it, go back to the same area and choose Disable authenticator app.

Using biometric login on mobile

In the SafeKeep mobile app, you can enable biometric login such as Face ID or fingerprint for secure and quick access.

  1. Open the SafeKeep app
  2. Go to Account settings
  3. Tap Enable biometric login
  4. Follow your phone’s instructions

Once enabled, you can log in without entering your password every time.

Managing your recovery code

Your recovery code is generated during account setup. It acts as your emergency key if you ever lose access to your chosen 2FA method.

You can:

  • View or copy your recovery code in account settings
  • Generate a new one if needed
  • Use it to restore access when no 2FA method is available

Always store your recovery code in a secure and private location.

Keep your security up to date

Your security settings are always available in your account. You can switch between 2FA methods, enable biometric login, or regenerate your recovery code if needed. Just remember — only one 2FA method can be active at any time.

With these options, you can customise your security in a way that works for you while protecting your most important information.
