Understanding the “connected users” section
How connected accounts and relationships work
The Connected users section in SafeKeep is where you can view and manage your legacy contact relationships, both those you’ve set up for your own account, and any where you’ve been named as a legacy contact by someone else.
This area helps keep track of who has access to your information after death, and whose accounts you may be connected to for legacy access yourself.
If you’ve added legacy contacts
You’ll see a list of all the people you’ve invited to act as your legacy contacts. These are the people you trust to access your documents, messages, and memories when you’re no longer here.
From here you can:
- Add a new legacy contact by entering their email address
- See the status of their invite (accepted, declined, or pending)
- Remove or replace legacy contacts at any time
- Stay within your plan’s quota for how many legacy contacts you can add
- Upgrade your plan if you want to increase the number of legacy contacts allowed
If you’re a legacy contact for someone else
You’ll also see any accounts where you’ve been invited to act as a legacy contact. Once you’ve accepted the invite and created your account (or logged in with your existing one), you’ll be able to:
- View who you are a legacy contact for
- Be ready to initiate an account takeover when that person passes away
- Begin a takeover request by submitting their death certificate, their date of birth, and confirming your password
- Once verified, view their documents, messages, and memories
- Choose whether to download their account or merge it into your own SafeKeep, which will count toward your plan’s storage quota
- Know that once merged, the original account data will be deleted after 90 days
You cannot view or edit their documents or data until the takeover is complete and approved. This ensures full security and respect of privacy.

SafeKeep’s Connected users section gives you control and clarity over who can access your important information, and lets you honour the trust others have placed in you. Whether you’re managing your own legacy settings or supporting someone else, everything is clearly listed and easy to manage from one place.
You’ll find Connected users in your account settings on the web platform. For now, this section isn’t available on the mobile app.
