Using legacy messages
Create and manage secure post-death messages
Legacy messages are a powerful and personal way to leave words of love, support, and guidance for the people who matter most. Whether it’s a video, an audio message, or a written letter, these messages are securely stored in your SafeKeep account and only shared with the people you’ve chosen after you’ve passed away.
What are legacy messages?
Legacy messages allow you to:
- Record or upload a video
- Record an audio message (mobile app only)
- Write a personal letter
Each message can be assigned to a specific person by adding their name. After a legacy contact takes over your account, they will be able to access and share those messages with the right person.
It’s a thoughtful and meaningful way to leave comfort, encouragement, or final words for the people you love.
How to create a legacy message
To get started, go to your MyLegacy area. You can do this from either the web platform or the mobile app.
Please note: File size limits for legacy messages are up to 500 MB per file for uploaded videos and audio. Written letters have no file size limit.
On the web app:
- Log in to your account
- Go to My Legacy
- Select Upload message
- Choose to upload a video or write a letter
- Assign the message to a recipient by name
On the mobile app:
- Open the app and go to MyLegacy
- Select Create message
- Choose to record a video, record an audio message, upload a video, or write a letter
- Assign the message to someone specific
You can create as many messages as you like. All messages are securely stored in your SafeKeep account.
Sharing legacy messages
After your account is taken over by a legacy contact, they will see the legacy messages you’ve created and will be able to adopt your documents, message and memories in to their account allowing them to share the legacy messages you’ve created.
If you wish, you can also use SafeKeep’s secure share feature to share any message manually before your passing. This gives you control over how and when a message is delivered.
Legacy messages help ensure your voice and care carry on—offering strength, reassurance, and love when it’s needed most.
