What is a legacy contact
Definition of a legacy contact and their role in your account
A legacy contact is someone you trust to access your SafeKeep account after you pass away. They are given permission to view and manage your documents, messages, and memories so your important information can be found, used, and shared by the people who need it most.
Adding a legacy contact ensures that your loved ones won’t be left searching for vital information during a difficult time.
What can a legacy contact do?
Once your legacy contact completes the account takeover process after your death, they will be able to:
- Access your documents, messages, and memories
- Download your files to their device
- Copy selected data into their own SafeKeep account
They can only access this information after providing the correct verification, including:
- Uploading your death certificate
- Confirming your date of birth
- Entering their own SafeKeep password
Until this process is complete, legacy contacts cannot view or manage any of your information.
How does someone become a legacy contact?
You invite them by email through your Connected users section on the web app. They will receive an invitation and can either accept or decline. If they accept and do not have a SafeKeep account, they’ll be asked to create one using that email address.
Once accepted, you’ll see them listed as a legacy contact in your account. You can remove or update this contact at any time.
Why legacy contacts matter
Appointing a legacy contact gives you peace of mind knowing your life admin, personal files, and final messages will be handled by someone you trust. It removes the burden from loved ones during an already difficult time and makes it easier for them to manage your affairs.
Your SafeKeep is built to protect your privacy now, and give access when it matters most.
