Adding your date of birth

Your date of birth is an important detail in SafeKeep. It helps keep your account secure and makes sure your Legacy Contact can access the right information when the time comes.

When you add your date of birth

You’ll be asked to enter your date of birth the first time you set up a Legacy Contact. This step is required because your Legacy Contact will need to provide your date of birth along with a death certificate when they request account takeover.

If you have not yet added a Legacy Contact, you can also add your date of birth directly in your account settings under your profile page.

Can I change my date of birth later?

For security reasons, your date of birth cannot be changed once it is saved in your account. This is to make sure your information stays accurate and cannot be altered in a way that would cause problems for your Legacy Contact later.

If you notice that you entered your date of birth incorrectly, please contact our support team. We’ll work with you to verify your details and help resolve the mistake.

Why your date of birth matters

When your Legacy Contact requests account takeover after you’ve passed away, they will need to upload your death certificate. SafeKeep checks the date of birth on the certificate against the date of birth in your profile. This validation step ensures that access is only given to the correct account and adds an extra layer of protection for your documents.

Quick steps to add your date of birth

  1. Go to account settings.
  2. Select profile.
  3. Enter your date of birth and save.
  4. Or, add your date of birth during Legacy Contact setup.

Once this is done, you don’t need to take any further action. Your date of birth will be securely stored and used only for account verification if takeover is ever needed.
